sprinG,summeR,falL, winteR...anD sprinG

The official website is here, and I've read a review on columbian newspaper that it is aesthetically beautiful yet somewhat jumping abruptly and not-so-coherent but it's about all a highly-recommanded film. By the way it has some Korean/Buddist culture that is exotic or foreign, definetely worth a try.

mitbbs again

I am thinking of applying a moviegoer club there, sometimes I really hate some entries there on Movie board, they are either biased or far-fetched. Seems to me only those who don't watch movie go there babling all around. When something interesting appeals, it will almost turn into something boring and dull-minded...Maybe I am just tooo cynicism...arrogant like they are...

Just saw some discussion on bbs about An Li's cthd. felt a lot to say but it's not wise to do that on bbs. :) I liked it very much and watched it quite a lot of times, it's defenitely one of my favorite.
1.  As a chinese I believe one should read the original book Yu Jiaolong as sort of comparison. there is something in common in novels at that time. Something that is so deep in that generation. After thousand-years of feudalism, people are suddenly provided such varied concepts as freedom, human right, democracy, bourgeoisie, woman right, socialism...the conflict and fight in their mind are barely imaginable, especially for us born after 70's.  Understanding this, the book is such a classic. Watching the heroine stuggling in her destined fate, trying make a sound but hardly being understood, you will almost be able to hear the echo from your deepest heart. This is why the film made so successful. You can feel the subtle sadness right when the music starts. The two threads of the film, two pairs of lovers, two generations, each represents two different idealism and yet they are entangled so closely that you can hardly tear them apart. They are all facing their dilemmatic choices and no matter what they choose, there is no bright end in front. They want to strike out some sparkles but that only burdens our already heavy heart.  I would say that the screenplay made the film. But also the picture is artistic, and the martial art(or kong fu) and music in the film is beautiful, just beautiful, so light and soft. Kong fu here becomes a media to convey the whole idea of the novelist and the director.
2. I dont agree with the point of view that thie movie is catoring the taste of western audience. All those in the movie are so typical oriental and I don't understand why people think it is not really chinese. I even think that it is because sometimes we don't have enough confidence in our own culture, facing drastic social and cultural changes these days we kind of lost in ourself  and can't identify which is the real traditional thing.  I think I'd like to hear this: we are so proud to present this to westerners: a tiny good part of our chinese culture.

PS: there are also discussions about Yang Dechang's Yiyi. I happened love this film very much. To me it is amazing how the director could manage to make such an meaningful and though-provoking film out of such a messy and cliche daily life. This one happened to be one of my favorite , too.

Though I am thinking of  adding  a new guestbook page, but it's kind of messy
without database...
